HAS COVID-19 AFFECTED CANADIAN IMMIGRATION?

While many apprehensions were being made as to what the future of Canadian Immigration would look like after COVID 19, the Federal Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino has put all fears to rest. Speaking at a press conference earlier this month, Mendicino said that the pandemic has only shown Canadians the essential nature of work that new immigrants do. He also mentioned that Immigration is vitally important (to Canada), and implied that the future of Immigration will continue to mean to Canada, what it has meant in the past.

The Federal Government has also made it clear that there is going to be a “significant surge of applications” when the travel restrictions that were put into place due to the global pandemic ease. Although the current world situation has brought Canadian Immigration to a temporary halt, the future looks definitely promising.

Immigration is vital to Canada, and this is a fact that is here to remain, notwithstanding all the changes the world has seen over the recent past. Though this may lead to noticeable alterations in the way Canadian Immigration works, Canada continues to need immigrants to help balance its demography. Most applications that are currently being processed have seen a significant processing delay owing to the reduced staffing at most IRCC offices around the world, and however,  Marco Mendicino also said that the Government is working on better systems and new strategies and processes to cope with the anticipated increase of work volume post COVID-19.

Taking all these into consideration, Immigration to Canada looks largely hopeful, and it may safely be said that Canada is still the most favoured country for Immigrants, and if you are planning to move to Canada permanently, or come to Canada on a Work or Study Permit, there is no better opportunity than this! Canada was set to welcome over 3,41,000 new immigrants in 2020, however, we are almost 7 months into the year, and this target is far from accomplished. This again indicates the huge possibility of an Immigration boom when the pandemic situation eases and the new normal life begins.
